Geotechnical Services

Introducing our comprehensive geotechnical services, meticulously tailored to meet the diverse needs of your project, spanning from pre-purchase due diligence to the construction stage. Our geotechnical team possesses the technical expertise to navigate complex challenges. With extensive experience in pre-purchase due diligence, re-zoning, site plan applications, and linear infrastructure projects, we combine engineering knowledge with practical experience to support clients throughout their project lifecycle.

Comprehensive Site Assessments: We initiate our process with a thorough examination of conceptual drawings, followed by thorough subsurface investigations. Our team then delivers detailed reports, offering personalized recommendations for shoring, excavation, dewatering, and foundation solutions. These solutions encompass a wide array of foundation types, including spread footings, raft foundations, CFA piles, caissons, ground improvement techniques, micropiles, helical piles, and high-capacity load test Osterberg Cell caissons, all tailored to the unique conditions encountered underground.

Advanced Monitoring and Modeling: By leveraging cutting-edge instrumentation and numerical/finite element modeling, we precisely monitor and model proposed developments and adjacent structures. This ensures that the construction of the new development, including dewatering and imposed loads, does not adversely impact adjacent structures. Our precise approach enables proactive management and mitigation of potential risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Tunneling: MCR assists tunnel projects by conducting comprehensive soil/rock investigations and describing subsurface geotechnical and environmental conditions. We offer design and construction recommendations for tunnels, shafts, excavation support, and other underground structures. Leveraging state-of-the-art software, we perform three-dimensional finite element analysis of groundwater-soil-structure interaction. Our expertise extends to designing and reviewing underground structures, with a focus on tunnel and shaft supports, lining systems, and temporary shoring and retaining structures.

Constructability Consultation: Leveraging decades of experience to provide valuable insights into project constructability, efficiency, and performance optimization.

Experience peace of mind with our holistic geotechnical solutions, meticulously tailored to meet your project’s unique needs and challenges.

Hydrogeology

Our team addresses permit challenges related to temporary site dewatering and permanent drainage system installation. From handling specifications and permit applications to preparing hydrogeology reports, finite element modeling, documenting pumping tests and monitoring groundwater we stick with client during pre-purchase due diligence, design and approvals and construction ensuring thoroughness at every step. With an experienced team of hydrogeologists, we’re dedicated to finding practical solutions. Collaborating closely with our environmental and geotechnical engineers, we provide comprehensive solutions tailored to common hydrogeological challenges. MCR specializes in hydrogeological investigations for land and high-rise developments across Ontario, managing dewatering during construction and securing permits.

Hydrogeological investigations encompass a range of activities aimed at securing development approvals, evaluating water supply sources, conducting environmental impact assessments, and assessing the distribution, migration, and fate of contaminants.

These studies involve assessing both short-term impacts during construction and long-term effects on permanent drainage systems. Utilizing Finite Element Modelling allows for a more precise analysis of groundwater volumes and their impacts, including the zone of influence and stability of adjacent land.

Field testing methods such as well response testing, infiltration testing, t-time analysis, and aquifer performance testing are employed to gather in situ data.

Water balance analysis is conducted to evaluate both pre- and post-construction conditions and ensure sustainable water management practices.

Plans to mitigate the impact on water sources are developed, and studies on foundation drainage are undertaken for existing structures undergoing renovation or expansion.

Navigating regulatory requirements involves securing permits such as PTTW, Discharge Agreements, EASRs, and ECAs, with expertise provided for legal proceedings at all stages.
